Memphis journalists are working to empower black men and change the way they are portrayed in our area.
The Memphis Association of Black Journalists held their Inspire Black Men Summit Saturday in North Memphis.
Organizers hosted a panel including Local24 anchor John Paul to talk about where we stand in the media.
“I think it’s important to have these talks about how we look as a whole and really understand the diversity that’s in Memphis. Memphis is 60/40 black, and quiet as it’s kept our newsrooms don’t often reflect that. I think more often we tend to focus on Karen from Collierville than Breesha from Binghampton and these are conversations that we really need to have,” said Montee Lopez, President of the Memphis Association of Black Journalists.
The event also offered health and job resources.
