Memphis City Council addresses several controversial issues, including Memphis 3.0 strategic plan

Local News

MEMPHIS, Tenn. ( – After months of delays, Memphis City Council Tuesday gave the initial ok to its first long-range strategic plan in decades, known as Memphis 3.0.

Two controversial measures impacting Whitehaven received the most debate at Tuesday’s meeting. Council members voted no to a redesign of the Waste Connections landfill on Brooks Road, where neighbors complained that rodents, stench, and illnesses ruined the quality of life in their neighborhood. The company had argued the redesign would have fixed many of those concerns.

Also in Whitehaven, people who live close to Graceland seemed happy the council approved a tourism development zone which allows Elvis Presely Enterprises to develop entertainment venues. The only condition is the venues can’t challenge the non-compete clause with FedExForum and the Grizzlies.
