Memphis City Council members are starting to plan for what will be one of the most important days in this city’s history. They are working on events for the 50th anniversary of the assassination of Doctor Martin Luther King, Jr.
Council members were told this event will not only attract people from all over the country, but all over the world.
“I asked for $175,000 dollars to be put into our budget for the purpose of any MLK 50 events,” says councilman Ed Ford, Jr. “The administration will probably, in a few weeks, is going to give their list to us. I’ll give them time to talk with council members so we won’t conflict with their events.”
Doctor King was assassinated in Memphis on April 4th, 1968.
