MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com)- The Memphis Fire Department along with the Girls Scouts Heart of the South hosted the 5th Annual “HERo Day” on Saturday.
MFD officials spent the day educating about 200 girls on the women’s role in emergency services.
The girls got the opportunity to suit up in protective gear, rappelled over the edge of a five-story building, and tackled a life-saving obstacle course.
It was a day filled for the girls to see women they could potentially be one day.
“The theme of the event is, if she can see it she can be it,” said Fire Chief Gina Sweat of the Memphis Fire Department. “So we just want to encourage young women that might be thinking about careers in the emergency services that this is an opportunity for them.”
The girls also learned other roles within the emergency services, including the dispatchers and paramedics.
