Memphis Grizzlies Chandler Parsons Delights Fans With Ticket Giveaway For Home Opener

Local News

The bond between the city of Memphis and the Memphis Grizzlies is among the strongest in the NBA, and Thursday that again played out off the court. It’s a Local 24 Exclusive.

Forward Chandler Parsons greeted some very happy Grizz fans with hundreds of free tickets for Friday’s regular season home opener. Parsons told us he decided to buy those 1,000 tickets to ensure FedExForum is packed and rowdy Friday night.

For some Grizzlies fans, their ticket is incredibly special since it will be their first game in person.

“The power that the Grizzlies have in the community, it’s everything,” says Parsons.

That’s equally felt by the fans, including Theo Grimes, who thanks to Parsons’ generosity, will bring his young son to his first Grizzlies game at FedExForum.

“It’s a blessing that you have people that actually reach out to people in the community,” says Grimes.

“I hope tomorrow night is really special for them, and that they cheer us on as loud as they can,” says Parsons.

Grizzlies fans we caught up with are optimistic ahead of the home opener, as the team is again healthy after a losing and injury-riddled season a year ago.

“I think the year should be on fire with the Grizzlies this year, coming with what I call new meat, new system,” says Vernita Flynn.

“I feel like the first game should be sold out, a rowdy place to play and I just wanted to reconnect with the fans and give back in a way that I know they would really enjoy,” says Parsons.

Any of free tickets not claimed by fans Thursday will be given to children’s charities, so younger Grizzlies fans will be surprised and come out to see a game Friday night.
