Memphis passed over as host site of new IRONMAN triathlon

MEMPHIS, Tenn. ( Tulsa, Oklahoma, has been chosen to host the first full-distance IRONMAN triathlon in the United States since 2014.

Memphis was one of four finalists to host the competition, which consists of a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile bike ride, and ends with a marathon (26.2 miles). The other finalists besides Memphis and Tulsa were Des Moines, Iowa, and Fayetteville, Arkansas.

In a tweet June 12, IRONMAN said, “We are proud to announce the Certified Piedmontese IRONMAN Tulsa our newest full distance IRONMAN Triathlon that will take place on May 31st, 2020!”
