Thousands of people packed downtown Memphis for the first round of the AAC tournament, and after the Tigers win, fans celebrated downtown and on historic Beale Street.
The atmosphere was electrifying.
“Make it till Saturday, that’s it…that’s it,” said Memphis Tigers Fan, Craig Caufield.
That’s what Memphis Tigers Fans are hoping the outcome will be during the American Athletic Conference this week. Thursday kicked off an exciting win in the first round for the Tigers against Tulane.
“I thought it was cool to have the team here at home, a good environment for the first conference game, we came out and we made a lot of three’s which we hadn’t done in a while which was awesome, our offense was great,” Caufield said.
The Memphis Tigers are on a winning streak and has the most dangerous scorer in the league, Jeremiah Martin.
“I think it’s going to be tremendous for the program, I think it will be good for Penny Hardaway’s First Year to really get this statement win this weekend really go all the way through I think it would be great for the city,” Memphis Tigers fan Damon Conley explained.
The tournament is back in Memphis after a five-year hiatus. Businesses are thrilled to have the tournament back in the city because it means big bucks.
“I would love to see us play Houston on Saturday get a little redemption for when we were at their home court and hopefully go to the championship, potentially get us in the NCAA tournament,” Caufield said.
Games continue through Sunday. The Tigers face UCF Friday afternoon at 1 p.m.
