Memphis Zoo & U of M team up for Global Tiger Day

Local News

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) – The Memphis Zoo teamed up with the University of Memphis to celebrate Global Tiger Day Monday.

Anyone wearing Memphis Tigers colors could enjoy the day at the zoo for $9.01.

Tigers are considered an endangered species. As few as 3200 are left in the wild.

Global Tiger Day is all about raising awareness of the conservation needs for the big cats.

“The biggest threat to these guys is losing their habitat. We want to protect where they live so that there’s space for them to live, essentially,” said Memphis Zoo cat keeper Shelby Handley.

The Memphis Zoo is currently home to four tigers. Learn more about International Tiger Day HERE.
