As we enter the second month of school, parents, teachers, administrators, and students are hitting their stride. There is another group that is involved, doing what they can to have a positive impact.
They call themselves “Men’s Morning Huddle,” and their mission is simple; they want to have a positive impact on youth in Memphis by encouraging men to motivate students through morning huddles.
This act of kindness is the brain child of Cedric Brooks and Devonté Payton. Their vision is similar to other initiatives we’ve highlighted recently from members of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity.
As we’ve reported, there are about 100,000 students in Shelby County Schools. According to SCS, about half of them come from low income families. School leaders say many of them are in single households, without a male figure.
Community members are asked to help fill that void. Anyone in the Memphis area, especially men, are asked to come out and greet students as they walk into school.
That’s exactly what volunteers with ‘Men’s Morning Huddle” do. They plan to have more huddles throughout the school year, and they invite you to join them. CLICK HERE to learn more.
