MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) – There has been a major development surrounding the controversial lawsuits against Methodist LeBonheur patients.
After months of trying to recover from the backlash, the hospital has erased the debt of 6,500 patients who were being sued. This new information is from Wendi Thomas, the MLK50 editor who broke the story over the summer. She found the hospital filed more than 8,300 lawsuits for unpaid hospital bills.
Since then, Methodist promised it will no longer file suit against anyone at or below 250% of the federal poverty guidelines.
Thomas says notices stating the cases are handled are coming in faster than the courts can process them.
