Mid-South men got a chance to show off their best cooking skills at the “Men Who Cook ” fundraiser Sunday.
The National Coalition of 100 Black Women Memphis hosted the event in the airport area.
The cook-off featured talented local men who know their way around the kitchen.
Awards were given out by celebrity judges in several categories including best dish, overall best cook, and people’s choice.
“We’re very excited about men who cook because we get the opportunity to go around and sample food items. We have different men from different walks of life. We have some younger gentlemen, as well as seasoned gentlemen, and we also have a mixture of the dance atmosphere,” said Iletha Washington, the NBCW Memphis President.
The competition raised $10,000 in its first two years.
Organizers are hoping the event grew larger enough to make the money in this weekend alone.
All money collected goes to the NBCW Peggy Walker Shaw Scholarship.
