Mid-Southerners participate In 17th Annual Southern Hot Wing Festival

Local News

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) – Although the temperatures dropped, hot grills warmed up as dozens of people brought their appetite for the 17th Annual Southern Hot Wing Festival.

The event welcomed teams to compete using their specialty wing sauces and flavors on Tiger Lane Sunday.

One of the hot wing teams based its flavors on the popular HBO show, “Game of Thrones,” with each flavor themed after a character on the show.

Local 24 News talk with Glen Thomas of the “Game of Bones” team, who told us why he and his team participate.

“One, it’s a great fundraiser for a great cause, but a lot of us are food enthusiasts. You know, Memphis is a great food town. It’s just another way to socialize, have a good time, and raise money for a good cause.”

All proceeds raised at the event benefit the Ronald McDonald House, which supports St. Jude families by providing free housing.

The annual festival has been around since 2003 and is a welcome to the spring season.
