MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) - NBA star and former Memphis Tiger Tarik Black is helping 25 young ladies get "glammed" up.
GLAM stands for "Girls' Life Academy Memphis." The camp is sponsored by the Tarik Black Foundation.
Monday, campers took a field trip to Alston Restaurant in Cordova to learn how to make healthy and tasty meals. Each day of camp focuses on different life skills training, with sessions led by female experts the girls can relate to.
“Many of us as adult women remember when we were this age and there were things that we had to find out the hard way and we had to learn as we go,” said Judith Moore with the Tarik Black Foundation. “That is why we took time to learn how to sign a lease, go to an apartment. Acura of Memphis helped us learn how to buy a car last week.”
The participants who take part in the 6-week camp are actually paid through the city of Memphis' MPLOY program.
