New Changes For Frayser Voting Precinct

Local News

Test say there’s no mold, but the Shelby County Election Commission is not taking any chances.

The Election Commission Wednesday clarified the use of the Ed Rice Community Center for voting.

It was shut down after the last election because poll workers reported they were sickened by black mold.

The city closed the center to conduct tests.

Local 24 has a copy of those test results, which came back negative for mold, but Election Administrator Linda Phillips said the commission decided not to use the facility for early voting.

Early voting will take place at Bellevue Frayser, but on election day voters will return to the Ed Rice Community Center because law requires election day polling locations to be within precinct boundary lines and there as not enough time to find a new location.

In Wednesday’s announcement Phillips stated she “would have found an alternate site for election day if I could have.”
