New Overton Square Restaurant To Donate Proceeds To Mid-South Food Bank

Local News

A restaurant revival happening in Midtown Memphis promises something for everybody.

From hot chicken to upscale dinning, four new restaurants will soon open in and around Overton Square, but here’s a twist.

One of those restaurants is offering help to people who can’t afford to eat out.

This is a one-of-kind concept you can really sink your teeth into all while doing some good right here in the Mid-south.

“I wanted to come home and birth something that’s never been done,” said Edward Bogard, owner and founder of BOGARD restaurant.

Bogard says he’s been eyeing the now vacant restaurant space for 4 years.

Once, Miss Cordelia’s, then Schweinehaus and most recently Stanley BBQ — this fall it will open as BOGARD , which stands for buying one gives another rare dish.

“When this spot came open for lease I had the vision, just not all the pieces,” said Bogard.

All of the pieces have now come together.

Former Grizzlies Head Coach Lionel Hollins and Preston Butts are co-owners and Ed Cabagio of SOB and Ben McLean of Belly Acres will be operating managers of BOGARD.

Bogard himself is well known in the world of philanthropy.

SoGive, his non-profit shoe design company, gives 100 percent of proceeds to 20 charitable foundations.

“But I was really inspired by the Mid-South Food Bank partnership,” said Bogard. “It was mainly inspired by the SoGive Hunger Awareness Shoe that we created in partnership with the Mid-South Food Bank today providing over 13-thousand meals.”

Bogard’s new restaurant will continue that commitment with 2% of proceeds from each meal going to the Mid-South Food Bank.

“To think that those who can afford to dine out will be helping to feed those who can’t afford to not only dine out, but to have food in their homes so this is such and exciting partnership,” said Estella Mayhue-Greer/CEO, Mid-South Food Bank.

“I wanted to be able to do something like everyday on a consistent basis,” said Bogard.

BOGARD will be a southern themed restaurant with tasty favorites like shrimp & grits and fried green tomatoes.
