Officer-involved shooting during an undercover sting operation injures one

Local News

SOUTHAVEN, Miss. (localmemphis.com) – Southaven Police and the Desoto County District Attorney are investigating an officer involved shooting.

Officers set up a sting and arrested four men Thursday afternoon at the Raceway Gas Station on Stateline Road. We’re told they were working undercover.

Desoto County District Attorney John Champion says the situation stems from an incident that happened Wednesday night when the suspects came to Southaven from Memphis to make a deal with a person they met through an app online. During the deal, Champion says the suspects shot at the victim but was able to escape.

Southaven Police used the same app and set up a deal with he suspects at the same Raceway Gas Station. When undercover officers arrived, they blocked the suspects to surrender. Champion says one undercover officer noticed the driver went for his pistol, and an officer fired a shot, hitting the driver in the arm.

Champion says the four men are in custody, their charges are pending, and their identities have not been released. No other people were injured. The shooting remains under investigation.
