Parasite found in swimming pools can cause “profuse, watery diarrhea”

Local News

(localmemphis.com) – The CDC says a parasite known as Crypto is infecting swimming pools and could literally turn your stomach.

Crypto is spread by feces. Most people who are infected with it get it from the pool, but you can get it from lakes, too.

It can cause “profuse, watery diarrhea” for as long as three weeks. Chlorine and filters aren’t enough to keep Crypto away.

Health experts say if you go to the pool, shower afterwards.
