Power & Tel Supply Co. plans to move its world headquarters from Binghampton to the Shelby County-Fayette County border, according to plans filed with the Collierville planning office.
The company will move from its Binghampton location to a 311,959-square-foot building in Piperton in Fayette County. However, some of the 236 parking spaces and driveway will be located in Collierville, according to Scott Henninger, Collierville planner.
The development agreement is being nailed down. Henninger expects it to be complete by the end of the week and placed on the March 25 Board of Mayor and Aldermen agenda. The project does not need planning commission approval since it involves only parking and landscaping on the Collierville side, Henninger said.
The company could pay in lieu of future improvements or the board could ask for road, sidewalk, curb and gutter improvements.
According to the site plan, the parcel is 28 acres near Highway 385 and Keough Road and will include a distribution center and offices.
Power & Tel principals were not available to comment or provide more details about their plans.
Power & Tel has been a “fantastic” supporter of its Binghampton neighborhood, Noah Gray, executive director of the Binghampton Development Corp., said.
Among the company’s acts of “strategic and sacrificial” commitment was giving the development corporation the lead and biggest grant for developing the Binghampton Gateway Center at the southeast corner of Sam Cooper Boulevard and Tillman.
The Gateway Center houses the impoverished community’s first grocery store, a Save-a-Lot, and other businesses including a Dollar Tree discount store and Inspire Community Café.
Gray said he had heard rumors about Power & Tel’s plans, but nothing concrete.
“I don’t know a whole lot about it,” Gray said. “I would say they have been an incredible partner.”
Power & Tel operates from at least two locations in Binghampton, leasing its headquarters office and related facilities on Yale Avenue. Power & Tel also still occupies a 210,732-square-foot warehouse it has leased from Loeb Properties at 2542 Broad Ave.
