MEMPHIS – A rooming house property manager has been convicted of beating a tenant after the two men argued over the tenant’s non-payment of the previous week’s rent, Shelby County Dist. Atty. Gen. Amy Weirich said Thursday.

A Criminal Court jury convicted the manager, Bradley Henderson, 32, of aggravated assault. He will be sentenced March 24 by Judge Glenn Wright.

The incident occurred around 5:40 p.m. in the 1300 block of S. Perkins Road as the two men had a heated discussion about the previous week’s $60 rent which had not been paid. The tenant said he had not paid because he had had to vacate the room because of bed bugs.

He said Henderson became irate and began punching him and then striking him in the head with the handle of a knife. The defendant then reached into the victim’s pockets and removed a cell phone, $750 and an EBT card, according to the victim.

The tenant was taken to a hospital for treatment of a broken nose, two black eyes and several cuts to his head and face.

The case was handled by Asst. Dist. Atty. Muriel Malone.
