Prosecutor Resigns After His Comments Regarding White Nationalists Were Revealed

Local News

A sudden resignation Tuesday by the assistant prosecutor for the town of Collierville after his Facebook post praising white nationalists came to light.

In his resignation letter, attorney Michael Cross said he was stepping down immediately for health reasons, but his resignation came on the same day Shelby County District Attorney Amy Wierich announced she revoked Cross’ ability to work cases in Collierville for the DA’s office.

Today’s actions came after evidence in a federal trial indicated cross had a city employee, who was a member of a southern heritage group, take video of a 2017 anti-Confederate rally at the Jefferson Davis statue. The group thought protesters were going to pull down the statue. That city employee was fired.

Around that same time, Cross made a Facebook post, defending the deadly violence by Confederate supporters in Charlottesville, Virginia, by saying, “This time the ‘good guys’ were ready to defend themselves…and they did!”

He continued saying leftists “can’t stand it when God-fearing patriots stand up to them-and win!”
