SCS board member arrested and charged for DUI

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com)- A Shelby County School Board member and former Memphis City Council member is now facing DUI charges after an accident in Downtown Memphis.

Scott McCormick is also facing charges of reckless driving, and vehicle entering highway from private road or driveway.

Memphis Police say an accident involving two vehicles happened near the Cannon Center on North Main Saturday night.

According to an affidavit, McCormick was leaving the “Regional One Night Gala,” and tried to make a left turn out of the parking garage onto Front Street.

That’s when another vehicle struck his rear driver-side door. Both vehicles spun before stopping abruptly.

Two of the three passengers of the second vehicle were injured but are expected to be okay.

A Memphis Police officer noticed a heavy odor of alcohol on McCormick’s breath. When asked if he had been drinking, McCormick admitted that he had “one drink an hour ago.”

McCormick represents District 5 for the Shelby County School Board and has been on the board since 2014.

In 2018, McCormick tried to run for the District 96 seat in the Tennessee House of Representatives but lost to incumbent Rep. Dwayne Thompson.
