A man is on the run, after Memphis Police said he terrorized several people in a crime spree across East Memphis Sunday morning.
According to police reports, a man matching the same description robbed an Exxon on Kirby and moments later, robbed and attacked an elderly man leaving for church on Dee Cove.
The report said that same man could be linked to other robberies.
“There should be a special kind in hell for someone who picks on a 88-year-old man on the way to church on Sunday morning,” Rick White, who lives on the same block as the Dee Cove attack, said.
The report said another neighbor heard the commotion and tried to help the elderly victim as the robber ran off.
“These folks aren’t going anywhere, we’ll do what we need to do to look out for each other,” White said.
Those who live in the area said the attacks will inspire residents to be even more watchful, whether it’s with their own eyes or more surveillance cameras.
“When crazy stuff like this goes on, you’ve got to make sure you are doing everything you can do to keep people from wanting to enter your neighborhood,” White said.
