Shelby County Commissioner Justin Ford has been arrested and charged, accused of choking his girlfriend.
Ford was booked into the Shelby County jail on charges of aggravated assault and false imprisonment.
Memphis police say Ford’s girlfriend told them he choked her during an argument about 9:00 p.m. Sunday night at the Church’s Chicken in the 900 block of Poplar.

When he returned to his car, he told police he saw Ford with the woman in a headlock and she was screaming for help. He went inside Church’s Chicken to alert an employee, who then called police.
Another witness told police she saw a man in the passenger side of a Mercedes grab the woman and pull her back inside the car by her hair. The report said Ford’s girlfriend was screaming for help and that she was being raped.
When police arrived, officers noted that Justin Ford smelled of alcohol.
His girlfriend told police she repeatedly told Ford she wanted to go home and the couple got into an argument, but she did not go into details about it.
