MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) — Shelby County Commissioners passed an $84 billion budget for the upcoming year.
Topics they voted on within the proposal Monday included $2.6 million for new voting machines, $2.5 million for pre-k, and $2.5 million for MATA.
Shelby County Election Commission got its wish with $200,000 for new voting machines as commissioners figure this will help get earlier results on election night and allow for more early voting locations. The commission also voted for an additional $2.5 million for Shelby County Schools, all to be paid for without raising your taxes.
Also approved was a lactation pod for breast-feeding and pumping mothers inside FedExForum. The purchase aligns with the Healthy Shelby-19 campaign to support mothers and babies, while promoting breastfeeding.
The new budget will go into effect July 1st.
