The Shelby County Criminal Court Clerk’s Office offered a second chance opportunity to low level offenders in Binghampton.
The office hosted an expungement clinic at the Greater Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church on Saturday.
The clinic helped people with nonviolent felonies and misdemeanors, wiping their records clean.
A representative from the clerk’s office told Local 24 News that it feels good to see people walk away with a fresh start.
“We got a nice turnout we’ve been able to help a couple people we just had one young lady walk out of here saying thank you and that’s what we want to hear we’re here to help the community we want to be able cause a lot of times people just don’t know so turnout has been good and we’ve been helping people,” said Kevin Phipps, PIO for the Shelby County Criminal Court Clerk’s Office.
Phipps said the expungement clinic will make everything from getting an apartment to passing a pre-employment background check a lot easier.
