(SHELBY COUNTY D.A. NEWS RELEASE) - A corrections officer was indicted Thursday on misdemeanor assault charges for allegedly striking and kicking a prisoner in the Shelby County Jail earlier this year, said Shelby County Dist. Atty. Gen. Amy Weirich.
Kareem Bealer, 45, an employee of the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, is free on $1,000 bond. He resigned on Thursday.
Investigators said the incident occurred during a cell shake down on April 26 when prisoners were being searched for contraband. The prisoner refused treatment.
