A local foundation spent Saturday distributing thousands of food baskets to families in need ahead of the holidays.
Shelby County Mayor Lee Harris joined the Team Max Foundation to distribute 6,400 baskets full of holiday staples.
The Team Max Foundation was started in 2009, after Max Rose was killed in a car accident.
Max loved to serve in the community, and his family and friends wanted to honor his legacy by forming the foundation.
Max’s mother told Local 24 News why doing things like this helps keep her son’s memory alive.
“I mean, this is my heart. When I look at the people doing what they’re doing here, it just helps me think about how Max would be right in the middle of all this, and they’re right now his hands, feet, and most importantly his heart, and it makes me feel like it’s finally the holidays,” said Gayle Rose of the Team Max Foundation.
This is the 10th year for Team Max to host the food basket distribution.
