Shelby County Mayor treats teachers to lasagna for National Teacher Appreciation Day

Local News

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) – Shelby County Mayor Lee Harris showed his appreciation for teachers with a free lunch Tuesday.

As part of National Teacher Appreciation Day, Mayor Harris delivered lasagna to the teachers at Belle Forest School in Hickory Hill. Harris said he chose Belle Forest because it’s the only community school in the district, and he wanted to see it in action.

Mayor Harris says it’s important to recognize those who shape the next generation.

“We want to celebrate folks that are committed to not just a profession, but a devotion,” he said. “It’s a mission, it’s a calling. It’s really a decision to take your talents and God-given schools and try to change the lives of young people.”

As for why lasagna, Mayor Harris said that’s what the teachers wanted, and said it was delicious.
