How would you like to start your weekend a little early? That’s what Shelby County students will get to do next school year.
Tuesday night, the Shelby County School Board approved next year’s calendar.
School starts August 12th. Students will go to school for only half a day at least eight times.
Also, next year the school year will be five days shorter as kids will go to school for 175 days instead of this year’s 180 days.
The board also passed a resolution opposing vouchers or any similar program that sends public dollars to private schools.
Tennessee Governor Bill Lee’s bill to create a voucher-like program using education savings accounts goes before the house education committee Wednesday morning.
