Shelby County Sheriff’s Deputies Investigate Body Found In Arlington

Local News

A gruesome discovery in Arlington. A man searching for his family’s dog found a body instead. Investigators identified the man as John Shields, who deputies had searched for a few weeks ago.

It happened Tuesday afternoon in the woods behind a home the 5300 block of Hidden Meadows Drive.

Local 24’s Kelli Cook spoke with the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson and he said that foul play has not been ruled out.

Investigators were called to the neighborhood around 1:00 pm. “I was out looking for the in-laws’ dog and someone said they heard some barking out in the woods,” says Jonathan Avery. “So I decided to go check real quick before I called it a day. So I thought it was garbage at first and I started realizing it was shoes. I walked around and got a better view and realized it was a person.”

Avery said he immediately called the authorities. As for the dog known as “Socks,” he is still missing.

The family is worried all of the activity might have scared the dog farther away.
