The accused killers of former NBA star Lorenzen Wright were back in court Friday morning.
Lorenzen’s ex-wife Sherra and Billy Turner are accused of plotting to kill the Memphis basketball star in the spring of 2010, before committing the act in July 2010 in southeast Memphis.
In November, Judge Lee Coffee set September 16, 2019 for their trial date. The two were last in court January 24th, where several motions were presented, including a motion for a jury pool from outside Memphis.
Sherra Wright’s defense discussed trying to get a change of venue for this trial during Friday’s hearing. They say based off of comments on social media and the fact that many in the Mid-South love Lorenzen, they don’t feel their client will get a fair trial.
The judge told attorneys Friday he has confidence in Memphis and feels the jury will do their job and give both Sherra Wright and Billy Ray Turner a fair trial.
A date of June 17th was also discussed as a trial date for Turner, on a separate charge of a convicted felon with a possession of a gun charge
Wright and Turner are due back in court May 28th to go over motions.
