St. Jude celebrated a major milestone Sunday.
The children’s research hospital’s founder, Danny Thomas, officially opened the doors of the hospital to help fight childhood cancer.
President and CEO of ALSAC Rick Shadyac says the survival rate for childhood cancer was 20 percent back in 1962.
According to their website, the survival rate for childhood cancer today is 80 percent.
Danny Thomas was committed to finding cures and saving children from the most difficult cancer cases within the hospital.
Thanks to numerous donations, St. Jude does not charge families for travel, treatment, or housing.
