MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) – This weekend is the St. Jude marathon and the Memphis Tigers’ AAC championship game at Liberty Bowl stadium. And that means road closures and traffic concerns.
Memphis police say they are prepared.
Saturday’s marathon is the largest single-day fundraiser for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
26,000 runners and 40,000 spectators are expected to be here that day.
Most of these road closures start Friday night at 10:00 p.m. and will last until Saturday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. (Find the course maps & closures HERE.)
This also affects those who will go to the Liberty Bowl to cheer on the Memphis Tigers as they play the Cincinnati Bearcats in the AAC championship game which starts at 2:30 p.m. Saturday.
“I hope we’ll see this as an absolutely fantastic weekend for the city of Memphis to have over 26,000 runners from all 50 states, 17 foreign countries. Of course, what we hope is a Tiger win in the afternoon, just a great way to showcase what we think makes Memphis an incredible city,” said Emily Callahan, Chief Marketing & Experience Officer, ALSAC.
Officials say you should download the Waze app to stay up to date on road closures and to find alternate routes. (Find the WAZE app HERE.)
