Despite the chilly air Sunday more than 2,000 people took part in the Step Up for Down Syndrome Walk.

Local 24 Cares is a proud sponsor of the walk at Christian Brothers University.

The money raised will provide information and support for families of newborn babies with down syndrome.

“I reached out when I was 6 months pregnant to learn more about Down syndrome because I knew nothing about it and spoke with Martine and she gave me a load of information, educated me,” said mom Misty Dotson.

The money raised is still being counted, but organizers hoped to reach $150,000.
