Memphis police say they recovered a stolen weapon after a short chase with a suspect following a traffic stop.

It happened just before 1:00 a.m. Thursday in the 40 block of S. Camilla near the medical district. Police say an officer was pulling over a car with expired tags, when the suspect bailed out of the car and started running.

Police say during the foot chase, live rounds were falling from a gun the suspect carried, because it broke as he took off. They say the suspect stuck the gun in a drawer, and kept running.

Officers found the gun, as well as the suspect’s iPhone. They say the gun was found to have been stolen from the 3600 block of Park Avenue on January 23rd.

The suspect remains on the run.
