Police have one person in custody after an armored car was shot at Friday afternoon.
This happened at the Regions Bank on Summer Avenue near Waring Road around 2:15p.m.
A second suspect is still at large.
Witnesses tell Local 24 two people tried to rob a Brinks armored truck while the driver was near one a bank ATM.
“I just deposited my check,” said Beth Culver. “We heard what we thought were fireworks. We saw a guy drive up on the curb, get out of the white car, walk towards the ATM. At that point the shooting had already started. We just needed to get away from the situation.”
Beth and her mother Cindy said they were lucky not to be hit in the gunfire.
“Had we been in the drive-thru this would have been much much worse,” said Cindy Culver. “I am so thankful to God for my safety, for my daughter’s safety and that nobody else was injured. Money is replaceable, lives are not.
