Taking A Stand With Survivors Of Sexual Assault

Local News

Dozens of people are taking action to stand in solidarity against sex assault. Survivors and advocates led an empowerment march around Lemoyne-Owen College in south Memphis Thursday.

The event was aimed to highlight the help available to voiceless victims of sexual assault.

Representatives with the Shelby County Rape Crisis Center say survivors have bravely shared their experiences with them, and they’re standing with those survivors in support.

“It’s important because of victimizing of individuals that have experienced sex assaults, we want to empower them,” said Michael Robinson, Division Chair of Social and Behavioral Sciences. “We want to show them they have support in a community, that they have rights and they have value.”

April is Sex Assault Awareness month. Attendees were given information on organizations that work in rape prevention, crisis, and intervention.
