The Gift Of Warmth Is Shared With Hundreds Of Mid-South Children

Local News

More than 600 brand new coats were given away Saturday to Mid-South families.

Hundreds lined up to receive the new coats at KIPP Memphis Prep Elementary in South Memphis.

The giveaway is through the “Share the Warmth” campaign, a partnership between Clothes4Souls and Macy’s.

Some families came from as far as DeSoto County.

“It means so much, because what parents can’t do, they’re stepping in and helping us out, and we come from Horn Lake, Mississippi, so we came a little bit of ways to come and get coats and stuff.  And I think it’s a blessing, it’s really a blessing” says Latoya Riley.

Maris Mender, Dean of Family Engagement at KIPP Memphis Prep Elementary says “we do it because people need coats, because we’re our school and we know that when kids have what they need, they are successful, and what you need is a warm coat in the winter time”.

This is the sixth year for “Share the Warmth”, which has given away 235,000 coats since 2013.
