Local News

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) – Shelby County Commissioner Tami Sawyer says we can’t wait any longer for equal opportunities in Memphis. She says that’ll be the first component of her campaign for Memphis mayor.

Sawyer officially pulled a petition for the race Monday. Tuesday, she promised supporters she will strive to increase the number of minority and women-owned businesses the city does business with to 30%.

She is one of three major candidates running, including incumbent Jim Strickland and former mayor Willie Herenton. Other candidates include small business owner and retired pastor Lemichael Wilson and community activist Terrence Boyce.

The election is October 3.
