TN State Officials Say Electrolux Is Not Required To Pay Back Tax Incentives

Local News

After the city of Memphis said Electrolux should pay back its tax break, Tennessee officials said the appliance company isn’t legally required to repay the nearly $200-million in state incentives.

The state’s 2010 agreement with Electrolux did not include provisions to recoup money if job thresholds aren’t met.

At the end of January, the company announced that it would close its Memphis factory, putting 530 people out of work.

The company plans to close the Memphis plant by the end of 2020 and consolidate manufacturing into its Springfield, Tennessee, facility.
