MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com)- A local high school changed their homecoming tradition as a senior male was crowned homecoming royalty Friday night.
White Station High School senior Brandon Allen, 17, was announced as the winner during half time at the homecoming football game against Bartlett.
An enjoyable moment for some, soon draw concerns for others as the school posted to their social media on Saturday.
White Station High School Principal Carrye Sowell Holland released this statement under the post:
“Here’s the thing: it’s Brandon’s right to run for homecoming court under Title IX. It’s the students’ choice of who they want to support as homecoming royalty. I’m exceedingly proud to be the principal of our amazing school. You don’t have to agree but disrespectful comments will be deleted. WSHS loves and supports everyone regardless of who they are or what they believe. Thank you for the love and light from so many of you.”
