One local school is going the extra mile to make sure cancer patients and survivors have something to look forward to on Valentine’s Day.
Trezevant Career and Technical School in Frayser hosted its annual “Pamper Me Pink” event Wednesday.
Cancer patients and survivors were treated to free hairstyles, facials, and manicures by cosmetology students. For many of these recipients, these free services help combat the damage done by chemotherapy treatments.
“When they’re recovering or feeling better or not taking chemo, by getting those services we help replenish the hair,” says Jacquelyn Walker, cosmetology instructor at Trezevant CTC. “We can treat them, give them scalp treatments, give them manicures and things to make them feel better.”
The idea for “Pamper Me Pink” came from a former teacher whose sister was diagnosed with cancer about eight years ago.
This event also happens in October every year in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
