TVA To Hold Open House On Future Of Former Allen Fossil Plant

Local News

The Tennessee Valley Authority is asking the public for input on what it should do with coal ash storage areas at the former Allen fossil plant.

The plant’s coal-fired units were retired last year, and the TVA is looking at several options.

One includes removing the ash completely, another would leave the ash in place, but sealed off from the environment.

An open house will be held this week to explain the impact of both choices.

“We’ll have folks working at ground water, folks looking at other environmental aspects,” says TVA spokesperson Scott Brooks. “And you can interact with those people, so it’s not a microphone/podium setup. It’s an open house were people come in, interact, ask questions and provide their comments on this process.”

The open house is Thursday, January 17, 2019, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Mitchell Community Center on West Mitchell Road.
