Arkansas State Police are investigating after a deadly officer-involved shooting Wednesday night in West Memphis.
It happened about 9:30 p.m. in the area of 18th Street and McAuley. According to West Memphis Police, officers tried to conduct a traffic stop in which two people were inside the suspect vehicle. The driver refused to stop. WMPD says the driver then rammed several squad cars and ran over an officer. WMPD says shots were fired and the man and woman in the car were struck and died at the scene.
The injured officer was taken to Regional One in non-critical condition and has since been released.
Arkansas State Police were called in to investigate. Once that is completed, the case will be turned over to a prosecutor for review and to determine if any charges will be filed.
