Two women were arrested for a shooting in Orange Mound that left one man dead and another injured on Christmas Eve.
Melissa Harwell and Tambertina Rivers told police they were involved in the shooting that happened at about 5:30 p.m. Harwell said she learned her stolen Dodge Charger was on Park Avenue at the “No It All” store.
After she and Rivers drove to the location, they found four men inside. They told police someone inside fired shots and they returned fire with their handguns.
MPD said they were licensed to carry.
The Charger sped off, jumped the curb and crashed near Pendleton and Supreme. The four inside then fled on foot.
Officers said a 19-year-old was taken to the hospital, where he later passed. An 18-year-old is still in critical condition.
Crime scene tape was set up around part of Lewis-Davis park where the car crashed as investigators collected evidence.
Harwell and Rivers were charged with second degree murder and criminal attempt second degree murder.
