MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) - Tuesday marked the start of a new era for a Memphis landmark. The Universal Life building is now officially open as the City of Memphis Business Development Center.
Founded in 1923, Universal Life grew to become the 4th largest African-American owned life insurance company in the U.S. After closing in 2000 and years of renovation, it is now open to house offices which help local small businesses.
“It will be like a training center. It will help the community overall, where it will house and bid train and help develop and get businesses started. Especially the minority businesses,” said Charles Jackson, former Senior VP of Universal Life Insurance.
The building is located at 480 Linden Avenue in midtown.
