Early voting starts in Shelby County Wednesday, but Shelby County Commission Chair Van Turner is concerned because 4,000 of the more than 36,000 new voter registration applications have yet to be processed.
The election commission says many of those are duplicates or lack important information in determining voter eligibility. The elections administrator says additional commission workers and volunteers are working to verify all applications submitted and contact applicants.
“Every voter who is registered will be able to vote. There are many applications that have deficiencies. If we have the voter there, we can get those cured and we can get them registered on the spot and they can vote like any other voter,” says Linda Phillips.
Additionally, voting precincts will be able to call election operations if there is a problem.
