The DeSoto County, Mississippi Sheriff’s Department is offering a safe place for people to exchange merchandise they’ve purchased from strangers online.
When you buy or sell items online on sites like Craig’s List and social media sites like Facebook Marketplace, it can be scary and uncomfortable meeting up with someone you don’t know. The Sheriff’s department is offering something called “Safe Exchange Zone” at their office at 3091 Industrial Drive West in Hernando.
There are two assigned parking spots that are marked for this specific reason, so you’ll have law enforcement at an arm’s length distance.
Deputies are in and out of the station, available to anyone who needs help.
The Safe Exchange Zone is also available for parents who want to pick up their child or children, especially if they’re going through an intense custody battle.
It’s a place of peace where deputies can intervene quickly if necessary.
Deputies say if you decide to do exchanges, purchases, or pickups somewhere else, they suggest doing it during the daytime in a public place and take a friend.
If you’d like more information on Safe Exchange Zone, call the DeSoto County Sheriff’s Department at 662-469-8027.
