MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) — 67-year-old Memphian Mike Baber will attempt to set a personal record this weekend in his modified Corvette at the Arkansas Mile Land Speed Race happening at Blytheville Air Force Base in Blytheville, Arkansas.
The event, sponsored by East Coast Timing Association, is one of three this year where racing participants can enter to race their own vehicles against a clock to set personal and competitive records.
Baber, a native of Lakeland, says he grew up loving cars and racing and is looking forward to competing this weekend as he attempts to set a personal record by reaching upwards of 175 mph in his modified Corvette.
“It’s unique, it’s very short-lived, it’s a rush. If you grew up in the 60s you know what that means. It’s a lot of fun and the more you do it, the younger you stay,” says Baber.
