WEB EXTRA: Volunteers will clean long-shuttered Mid-South Coliseum

Local News

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) — Clean Memphis, Coliseum Coalition, and the City of Memphis are teaming up on a Coliseum Clean-up from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 27th.

The groups believe “previtalizing” at the Coliseum can be a boost to the Fairgrounds redevelopment effort, and a reopened Coliseum could be a real boon to the surrounding neighborhoods and entertainment districts.

Marvin Stockwell, co-founder of the Coliseum Coalition, will be leading the charge Saturday with a group of 50 volunteers tasked with sweeping and cleaning the interior of the Coliseum.

“The building is in excellent shape and there are certain areas of the Coliseum when you tour through here that look literally kind of somewhat untouched,” says Stockwell.

It is not yet clear if Saturday’s clean up event will be enough to fully clean the Coliseum interior.

Stockwell is not eliminating the possibility of future clean-up efforts if they are needed.

Local 24 will be on hand Saturday to capture the clean-up efforts, so stay tuned to Local 24 News online for the latest in Coliseum updates.
